ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art language model developed by OpenAI. It is based on the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) architecture and was trained on a massive dataset of text from the internet.
It can generate human-like responses to text inputs.
Unlike traditional customer service systems that rely on pre-written scripts or responses, ChatGPT uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms to understand the context of an inquiry and generate a personalized response.
ChatGPT is seen as a breakthrough in language generation and is already being used in various industries, including customer service, marketing, and human resources.
It’s been making waves on the internet since its November release. We wanted to explore how to use it in a senior living context. So, we put it to the test. We were surprised at the results, to say the least.
This may be the most powerful tool to enter assisted living and nursing homes in the last few years.
The key to ChatGPT, and any other language model, is in the prompts. When you type out commands, ensure you’re as specific as possible and don’t be scared to add more information.
Suppose you have feedback surveys from residents or their families in a text format, like in Microsoft Word. In that case, you can copy and paste the entire document into ChatGPT and ask it to pull out, for example, the three most common complaints, trends, most-loved features, and more.
One of the coolest functions we found, which also happens to be a massive time-saver, is reorganizing data into table formats. Let’s use customer surveys as an example.
Say you have your customer surveys in a text file, but you want it in a table format to group key points from each response.
For example, you want rows with respondents and columns with key points (things they liked, disliked, etc.).
You can enter your entire text file into ChatGPT and ask it to place it in a table format. This is a manual task that can take hours. Now, it’s done in less than 20 seconds.
Here’s an example of data we asked it to reorganize (these respondents were fabricated for display purposes)
Using ChatGPT to assist with drafting job postings, you can save time and improve the quality of your postings. The model can provide suggestions based on industry best practices and ensure you get all the important details. With ChatGPT, you can be confident that your job postings will be well-written, effective, and appealing to potential candidates.
Here’s a simple example of a job posting we drafted. See below for the prompt we used. Of course, you can add more specificity based on your own needs.
Prompt: “Draft a professional job posting for a Personal Support Worker in a Retirement Home. Ensure you cover key duties and responsibilities of the role.”
ChatGPT can be used to source potential candidates by searching through resumes and cover letters that you input into the system. It can then identify the most qualified individuals based on specific criteria that you specify.
Gather information on best practices and industry standards for HR policies and guidelines, the model can then use this information to make a first draft of your required document(s).
If you have your policies already written, you can have ChatGPT review them to ensure they comply with applicable laws and regulations in your jurisdiction, and alert you if in the case that you’re missing clauses or important points.
Leverage AI so you can supercharge your marketing output. If used effectively, a small team can produce drastically more marketing material than they otherwise would.
Generate creative and engaging content for social media platforms with the AI.
For example, the model can be trained on the language and style used by the retirement home, and can then be used to generate regular posts, captions, and replies on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
This can help save time and improve the consistency and quality of the facility's social media presence.
ChatGPT can be used to assist in the creation of email marketing campaigns for the retirement home. The model can be trained on examples of past campaigns and can then generate suggestions for subject lines, content, and call-to-actions. This can help streamline the email marketing process and ensure that all communications are effective and consistent.
Write blog posts by providing ChatGPT with an outline or topic and using its suggestions as a starting point for the blog post. Then, you can ask it specific questions about key topics of the post to direct the article and flesh out different ideas. You can even train the model on your desired style and tone by inputting past blog posts.
Giving you marble to carve from where there was none before while giving you ideas you may have yet to think of.
Generate a list of keywords that are relevant to an assisted living community, which can then be used in search advertising campaigns.
While these won’t be the only keywords you’ll need, and some may not make sense (it gave us the keywords “affordable” and “5-star rating), it’s a great starting point that you can expand on. Helping you start your campaign very quickly.
The model can be trained on data related to the community, such as its offerings, services, and features, as well as industry trends and relevant search terms. By analyzing this data, ChatGPT can suggest keywords likely to drive traffic and lead to resident move-ins.
You can also input results from your campaigns into the model to analyze your results. This can give you new ideas based on what has and hasn’t worked. And, it adds a fresh set of eyes on your campaign.
Research is essential to managing a retirement home, as staying up-to-date with the latest advancements and best practices in senior care can help ensure that residents receive the best possible care.
ChatGPT, a language model trained by OpenAI, has access to a vast amount of information from the internet, including the latest research and insights in the senior care field. By utilizing ChatGPT, a retirement home manager can quickly and easily obtain information on the latest developments in medical science, best practices for senior care, and other relevant topics.
Integrating artificial intelligence in the senior living industry is an exciting development with huge potential as language models evolve and grow.
We view OpenAI's ChatGPT and GPT-3 as tools to enhance and augment the capabilities of human workers rather than as a replacement for them. Just as a computer enhanced the efficiency of an accountant or an electric saw improved the speed of a carpenter. ChatGPT and GPT-3 can serve as productivity boosters for information workers.
By leveraging AI, nursing homes and assisted living facilities can save time and improve the quality of their work. They can enhance the capabilities of their teams and achieve a higher level of productivity and output.
With GPT-4 is right around the corner, which supposedly drastically more powerful than both ChatGPT and GPT-3, we’re looking forward to seeing how senior living communities will be leveraging AI in the years to come.
